Members from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) - Robert Gilbert Livingston Chapter of Georgetown visited the elementary library on Thursday, Jan. 15 bringing a donation of 100 books collected as part of the America 250 Book Drive. The books focused on the revolutionary war, the colonial era and US presidents and first ladies and were collected at the October-December chapter meetings.
During the visit, the members read a book to the kindergarten class, recited the Pledge of Allegiance and explained the excitement of America's 250th birthday this year. The members also brought a celebratory cake to be enjoyed by the elementary staff.
High school senior, Addison Wall, was also recognized by the group as a scholarship recipient. "Addison Wall won our chapter’s second-place scholarship of $1000 this year. I was so excited as I am our chapter’s liaison for Thrall," said Maggie Kirkendoll of the DAR - Robert Gilbert Livingston Chapter, Georgetown.
